Kuzuzangpo and Joenpa lekso!

Visiting the idyllic, peaceful and tradition-rich Kingdom of Bhutan is a unique experience that many aspire to undertake at least once in their lives. Besides the country’s pristine and clean natural environment, the time travel experience of witnessing traditional day to day life as it was done so hundreds of years ago and connecting with the abundant spiritual wealth in the country, there is the most important experience of all: meeting and interacting with the cheerful, happy and good-spirited people of Bhutan, through which all of the characteristics attributed to the Kingdom will be manifested.

Druk Tersar firmly believes that the visitors should experience and take back with them more than the generic traditional and historical information provided by their respective tour guides or the photographs of the historical and cultural landmarks of the country. We believe that our guests deserve great memories of their visit, an interesting anecdote to accompany the fantastic pictures that they will no doubt take and put names to faces that they interact with; and cherish and remember them for a very, very long time to come.

Thank you for visiting our website. We invite you to browse through its contents so that you have a clear understanding of what we have to offer. In case you see something you like, please feel free to contact us for further information. We look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Festivals in Bhutan

The Bhutanese have a long standing tradition of celebrating the end of the harvest season by dressing up in their finest and going to the local Dzongs to watch the spectacular traditional and religious masked dances and dramas. The festivals, known locally as “Tsechu” (lit. 10th day of the 10th month), is celebrated mainly to commemorate Guru Padmasambava’s many victories against malevolent spirits and demons in his quest to introduce Buddhism into Bhutan. His various exploits are the centrepiece of the dances and plays acted out in detail in the Tsechus. The festivals are also an opportunity to provide blessings for good health, safety, prosperity and for a good harvest in the coming year. Of the various tsechus that take place all over Bhutan, the major ones are the Thimphu Tsechu, Paro Tsechu and Punakha Tsechu.

In addition to the Tsechus, there are other festivals like “Dromchoe”, “Mewang”, and the interestingly titled Naked Dance. All festivals have a predominantly Mahayana Tantric Buddhist theme filled with spectacular displays of colour, skills, art and excitement. It is a time for the farmers, who have laboured in their fields all year long, to let loose and to catch up with family members and friends in a festive environment. We welcome you to be part of this unique experience.

About Us

Druk TerSar is a tours and travel agency dedicated to providing high quality service that is a well-balanced combination of warm Bhutanese hospitality and expert service delivery to our clients. “Druk” is the name the inhabitants of Bhutan call our beautiful Kingdom and “TerSar” is an amalgamation of two different Dzongkha words: “Terma”, means a hidden treasure and “Sarpo”, means new. Travel is an experience through which we inevitably discover new things. It brings us in contact with different cultures and different people and we have a more profound understanding of the world that we live in, both material and spiritual, after the barrier of our own limited assumptions are broken down by actually seeing, tasting, hearing and feeling what was earlier non-existent or foreign to us. This widening of the mind and perspective brings us closer to the true realization of the actual world we live in, where we find out what is real, human and beautiful. This, in turn, allows us to discover ourselves in a new light, which leads to a more enlightened view of our own existence and ourselves. This discovery of what was hidden within us, through travel and interaction with different cultures, is what TerSar means and stands for.

We are a team of very well-travelled multi-lingual Bhutanese nationals who understand, from our wide travel experience in Asia, Europe and Africa, the kind of experience our guests expect and deserve. We will not cut corners or make compromises in ensuring that you have the best of everything that this beautiful, peaceful and tradition-rich country has to offer. Our tours are specifically designed to give you a complete immersion into the traditional, cultural and historical elements of what makes up the beautiful Kingdom and its people in the most environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly manner.

In case you have specific requests not offered on our itineraries, you may rest assured that with the 10 years of touring experience we have in Bhutan, we can personalize any itinerary to specifically cater to your wishes. Please get in touch with us at [email protected]

We Look Forward To Welcoming You
